It all started when…

I (Sherri) was 16. During the summers, I’d go “on the road” with my dad. He was a cross-country truck driver. As you can imagine, being in a truck 24/7 can be quite boring at times. To pass the time, I’d read. One day we went into the truck stop, and I saw a true crime book. I bought it and was hooked. And what made it even more special is that my dad was also a true crime student, so we’d discuss the cases I was reading.

Those summers of reading and discussing true crime with my dad are very special to me. I know it sounds weird, but those times were bonding times for us. That and politics.

Over time, Ted Bundy became a fascination. I guess because he seemed so freaking normal! How can evil be hidden so well? How does a sweet baby grow up to be a serial killer? Were there signs when he was little? What was the trigger? And I hate to admit it, but sometimes the victims get lost in all of those questions.

My dad also taught me street smarts. I’m a naturally distrusting person, but he taught me things that have literally saved my life three times like trust your gut, act like you own the place even if you’ve never been there before, if anyone tries to take you, do this.

When I was pondering doing a podcast, I kept brainstorming how it could be different. The first key was that it had to be smart. It had to help others not be a victim. It had to let all of you sweet people out there know that there are times being rude will keep you safe!

The second key was asking my mom and sister to be on the podcast with me. Both of them are also true crime addicts (it runs in the fam), and we want to help others as a team. Not to mention the amazing chemistry we have together!
